Screamworld – Houston’s Most Terrifying Haunts
Screamworld now has five attractions at one location for one price. And  we only have one line; once you are in you move from one attraction to the next without having to stand in line again.  All of our attractions are very different…

Jake’s Slaughterhouse is a visually stunning attraction complete with slaughtered beef, gutted hogs, skinned animals, rotting carcasses… and a few things that no meat market should ever have.

The Haunted Hotel is considered the most high-tech haunted attraction in Houston – with very elaborate scenes and sophisticated animatronic features.

The Edge of Darkness is a traditional-style haunt, with long twisting pathways and classic scare tactics.

There are also two outdoor attractions: the Maze of Maniacs and

the all-new Zombie Graveyard.

Our No-Touch Policy

We also have a “no touch” policy; we don’t touch you, and you don’t touch us.  We feel if a haunted house has to touch you to scare you, they don’t really know the art of fear.  Engineering the element of surprise takes a lot of planning and ingenuity, and at Screamworld we take great pride in being the best at this – not only in Houston, but one of the best in the country.

The History of Screamworld

ScreamWorld is entering its 11th season, and its creator, Jim Fetterly, has been haunting the greater Houston area since 1989.  We operated three haunted attractions near downtown Houston for 12 years, called the Haunted Hotel, the Haunted Zone in 3D, and the Fear Factory.

In the old days we leased old buildings and our customers waited in lines on sidewalks.  We wanted to take Houston’s best haunted attractions to the next level, and at the same time eliminate the one customer complaint that haunted us for years — “We like going to multiple haunted attractions, but we don’t like waiting in line again and again for each one.”

So we purchasing our own land and built a brand-new facility, putting all of our attractions under one roof.  The haunted attractions follow one after the other with signage letting customers know when they are moving from one attraction to another.

We feel very honored by the awards we have received, and we will continue to strive to deliver the best scares we can create. Screamworld has consistently been voted the best haunted attraction in Houston, and this year Screamworld will have the best haunted attractions we have ever produced.

Thanks again for stopping by, and we look forward to seeing you.

Sincerely,

Jim Fetterly
Screamworld Creator

  9. avatar kayla says:

what happens if you or your friend touches the actors will you get kicked out of the whole screamworld or just the thing your in?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

If it is accidental, it’s no big deal. If not and you keep it up, you will get be escorted out of the facility and your visit ends.

  10. avatar Hunter Vukusich says:

oh and why arent tickets availible online right now?

  11. avatar Hunter Vukusich says:

What are the auditions like to get a job as an actor/actress? what do you have to do? And when is the best day to go.. i will be getting the all scream pass.. when is the best time to get there(day,time).. and how many people should i go with.. its my first time this year.. should i go with like me and my best friend or more people?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Auditions are actually pretty fun. To avoid crowds, go early in the season. Also avoid peak times – from about 9:00 – 10:15. I think it is more fun to go with a nice-sized group and go through together.

  12. avatar CM says:

I noticed there is no age requirement listed under employment. What is the youngest age you will hire?

  13. avatar Rebecca says:

Does ScreamWorld rent its facilities for off season events/parties? For example, at the end of March?

  14. avatar AOKG says:

i have a quick question. are you alowed to bring a video camera and tape the event, or is that not allowed?o’.\'o

      • avatar Camille says:

Omqq Im Back. I had a total blast!!! It was freaking horrifying. The guy in the kitchen got me so good i fell hard lol. Ontop of that i was so busy looking at the man in the slaughterhouse that i bumped into the wall and now i have a little scar right by my eye :(
Wow you guys did amazing on the makeup. I saw Jester and he actually looked kind of…….cute in a creepy and scary way. The only thing that creeped me out about him is that he was holding his heart in his hand and he had like an hole in his stomache : l
The maze was soo freaking scary that like totally ganged up on me and my sister we were screaming so freaking loud.

Really enjoyed it! Can’t wait till next year!!

  17. avatar lynn says:

if u have a heart condition do u think it is safe to go in?

  19. avatar Mariah Woods;] says:

Hmm…I Tend to be very clumsy….i know that i should wear sneakers but, the last haunted house i went to completely ruined my sandals. Would you recommend i wear shoes that i dont much care about for the outside haunted house or does it not matter?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

I would wear tennis shoes; something well attached to your feet. See this: video
Unless it is raining a lot, your shoes should be ok outside.

      • avatar Mariah Woods;] says:

Thnxs :) & Do you guys ever worry that the actors might hit someone with their props ( chain,chainsaw,knifes,ect.). I totally love props especially the chainsaw because its loud but, im just wondering?

  20. avatar Layla says:

Can we take pictures with the monsters that come in the line??

  21. avatar anthony says:

    just a quick n simple question …

n if a group of ppl aroun 15-20 buy da group tickets how can we get a discount but we want VIP passes not regular but with da discount of da group passes

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Just double-checked the website; for these last few days of the season the tickets get real simple. There is only a single ticket or a single VIP pass. There are no more group discounts from here on out.

  22. avatar mhan says:

I LUV SCREAMWORLD!!!!! ps its been open as long as ive been alive!!
and i am 90 years old JK i am not telling my age for ALL THE CREEPY STALKERS OUT THERE and yes you know who you are.
the 1st time i went to Scream this short person started following me around and it freaked me out (i was like, 8) and was too young to die so i like, started, like, freaking out, like. yeah.i like PIE ( don’t judge!!!!)
so now you know my life story and ….. yea. know you know my life story.
JK thats not all i do in my life. i eat. and sleep.
    GO TO SCREAMWORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:O

  23. avatar dark angel says:

y cant u have cameras in there?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Flash and screen light can ruin the effect for you and others. Also, we need to control what is released to the public; part of the thrill in going through Screamworld is not knowing exactly what you will see. At any rate, that is our rule: no cameras allowed.

  24. avatar Clark Taylor says:

    how long does it take?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Depends on how fast you go through. Takes about 40 minutes, not including the time you are in line. By the time you get out, you feel like you’ve been in there forever.

  25. avatar Ashley says:

I have a question Are there snakes or spiders? I have a phobia of snakes and my bestfriend of spiders. Its her birthday and I dont want to end up crying or fainting.

  26. avatar skipy says:

how much is just one attraction? not all 5?

  27. avatar Guru says:

Putting a group together to visit this Thursday the 28th. Any discounted rates available for a group, if so what’s the minimum sized group.

Also know sometimes closer to Halloween, there are no discounts available at all. Let me know please.

    Thanks

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

We still have group discounts available. Click on this link: http://www.screamworld.com/tickets

Press the continue button. The options presented on the next page includes the group packages available.

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Sorry, I missed your comment yesterday. Group discounts start at 15 people. Go to http://www.screamworld.com/tickets. Press continue, and you will see the group options available.

  28. avatar aqua seay says:

so i went oct22 and i was there for the first time i did not know wat to espect and so we arrived and there were monsters all over and i got scared and we walked to the ticket line and all the monsters came over to talk to my sister and they would not leave so we left and i was just wondering are they supposed to do that and they did not even scare us they just started talking is this what yall usually do cuz if u do them we wont go i just need to know cuz we are going on the 31

  29. avatar twix says:

is there a certain dress code you recommend? I know no sandals but would shorts or pants be more appropraite?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Either is fine. People often wear costumes too. Try not to wear anything that is too tight; you are likely to jump suddenly if you are startled. People have been known to split their pants.

  30. avatar alex says:

can i still get in if im 10

  31. avatar Lynda says:

Is there a limit on amount of VIP passes sold online for each day?

  32. avatar TINKY WINKY says:

O.M.G. ME AND MY FRIENDS ARE SO TERRIFIED! ANY ADVICE? WHERE TO BE IN LINE WHILE GOING THROUGH IT? WOULD I BE ABLE TO LINK ARMS WITH MY FRIEND? ARE THERE ANY CLOWNS? SCALE OF 1-10.. HOW SCARY?
    STILL EXCITED!!!! THANKYOU!!!!!

  33. avatar aqua seay says:

i have a ?. what if you get really scared easly do you think that that person should go and on a scale to 100 how scary is screamworld and what do you think the best day to go is.

  34. avatar monica says:

would i be able use both the coupon and the jack in the box receit at the same time for 1 ticket

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Usually you can’t combine discount like that. If the coupon doesn’t say anything about it, then check with the ticket booth.

  35. avatar charlie says:

Are there bathrooms there? if so do they scare you in there too?

  36. avatar ike says:

is there a pass that lets you go as many times as you want?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

The “all you can scream” pass was only available on nights earlier in the season. To be informed of such specials, sign up for our notification list.

  37. ha, I will try out my thought, your post give me some good ideas, it’s truly awesome, thanks.

    - Thomas

  38. avatar aqua seay says:

ugh if you are 13 can you still go and can you bring a friend along to if they are turing 13 this month

  39. avatar Rachel says:

so if you r pregnac can you go in

  40. avatar Charlie says:

Are we Allowed to take our phones in? or a purse? Do we get searched?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

You can bring in a purse (although, you might not want to; easy to drop things when you get scared). You are not searched. You can take your phone in, but we ask that you not take it out. We also do not allow cameras.

  41. avatar Linda says:

Is this haunted house really worth it? I live almost two hours away and want to make sure I enjoy it before I drive that far for a haunted house. I love scary movies, and all that good stuff… So what do you think?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Screamworld is as good as Halloween gets, so if you are going to drive two hours for anything, make it this. Besides, we’re talking Houston. I am 45 minutes away, and I consider it close by.

If you are going to make the effort, make it worth your while. Bring a group; watch scary movies in the car; have dinner, etc. Come when we are a little busy; the crowd kind of builds excitement, and it is fun watching the actors heckling and scaring people while you wait. We have some fortune tellers on the grounds, which is kind of cool. Take it all in.

This place is really scary. There will be lots of giggling on the way home.

  42. avatar leon adams says:

i have a year old daughter is she to young to go? she wants to go to adult haunted houses.

  43. avatar A6WP says:

    Can we hug the actors????

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Only air hugs. We have a no-touch policy.

      • avatar chris w. says:

i got to hug someone from the phobia haunted house

        • avatar Blog Troll says:

Was this a goal of yours or something? Seems strange for a haunted house.

Inside the Screamworld haunted house, our actors mean business; not too much loving going on there. Outside is a little different. Our actors outside will pose for pictures with you if you want, and I’ve seen people put their arms around them for the photo opp. They”re a pretty scary bunch, though; most people are too afraid to get that close. We don’t allow cameras inside.

  44. avatar brenda says:

when you turn around and try to run are there any sharp objects that can harm you or make you bleed ?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

No, nothing sharp, but you can run into walls… which is never fun. The key is to not run – which is one of our rules.

  45. avatar mke says:

do you win money if you make it through or do you know of any places in houston that do….thanks

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

No. I know of no such place. There is a legend about town… something about a place with 13 floors. Just a legend. There is no such place.

  46. avatar Gwen says:

if only 2 people go is it possible we would be split up? and how many times can you go through the 5 attractions? thanks(:

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

No, the doorman will not split you up.

You are welcome to go through as many times as you like, but you have to buy a ticket each time.

  47. avatar david says:

what will you do if we panic and run ?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Screamworld is set up so that it is actually very hard to get up any kind of speed. Lots of sharp turns and darkness. When people panic, they tend to just flatten themselves out against the walls.

  48. avatar kamryn says:

if you get a v.i.p pass and you are a group will they be able to skipp to

  49. avatar kimberly says:

Can a 3 year old get in?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Technically, a 3 year old can enter with adult supervision, but I doubt they would really let a child in who is that young. REALLY not a good idea.

  50. avatar melissa says:

when you print the $3.00 coupon is it good per person or is it good for a group?

  51. avatar C says:

Are pregnant people allowed to go through the haunted house attractions? someone told me that is not usually allowed. thanks!

  52. avatar brenda says:

are the knifes etc.. real?????????do they touch you

  53. avatar Max says:

About how long should I expect to be there?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

You can get through everything in as little as an hour if you hoof it. Depends on the line and how much of a hurry you are in.

  54. avatar Kaylee Hill says:

Are there and maggots/insects or snakes?

  55. avatar Jackie says:

How many people can go in at once?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Up to about 12. If your group is larger, we will break your group up into subgroups, but each will follow one after the other.

  56. avatar J says:

    Dear Mr. Blog Troll,

you are the cutest thing ever. =D

  57. avatar James =) says:

During all the 5 attrations. Can people split up and get lost? For example. If there is 20 to 30 people in the first or any attraction. Is it possible that i can lose them and find them somewhere else?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

No. You proceed through was is essentially a tunnel. There is only one direction to go, so you can’t get lost.

  58. avatar James =) says:

I want to go October 23rd Which opens 8pm to 12am. Around what time should i be there at the place to avoid parking traffic? Or what time do people normally start to go there? How long will i be inside the entire place? Can i go again after the last place?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

To avoid most of the crowd, I would arrive as soon as it opens; the heaviest crowds start forming after 9. If you show up, go through, and leave, you can be in and out in less than an hour. It’s fun to stick around and see other people getting scared, though. We also have some attractions and concessions outside the haunts themselves.

  59. avatar James =) says:

In the Maze of Maniacs. Is it like a real maze where you have to find your way out? If so is it a challenging maze? How big is the maze? I want to feel like a mouse trying to find its way out. =D

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

The Maze of Maniacs is one of our outdoor features. The maze itself is hard enough, but you also have several of our residents inside the maze tormenting you. It is an unnerving experience. No cheese, sorry.

  60. avatar Hannah D. says:

Sorry to ask another question, but I wanted to know if at anytime in the attraction can you leave?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

You can skip the first attraction and the last attraction. Attractions 2 through 4 follow on after the other; once you enter, you are pretty much committed until you get out of #4.

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

You can skip the first attraction and the last attraction, but attractions 2 – 4 inside the building follow one to the next. Once you enter, you are pretty much committed to finishing all three.

  61. avatar Silvia says:

    Can you wear sandals???

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

That is not recommended. Too easy to get your toes stepped on. Any sandals that fit like flip-flops are especially bad.

  62. avatar jwoww says:

if one of them touches you what happens? if we touch them wat happens.?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

It’s not like you explode or anything. The rule is “we don’t touch you; you don’t touch us.” If our actors touch you, it is by accident; it happens. If you aggressively try to touch us, someone will escort you out.

  63. avatar David says:

If I crap my pants do you provide toilet paper or clean up assistance?

  64. avatar brenda says:

can you dress like a fairy and still go in screamworld

  65. avatar Melody says:

What would you have to do if you wish to be apart of screamworld!?!

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

You can be part of Screamworld just by visiting, of course; but I am guessing you mean what does it take to be an actor or other employee. Every year there is an audition process that we go through to gear up for the season, including auditions for actors. We have already gone through this process for 2010, but you can read about it by going to the Employment page on our main site. If you want to join Screamworld for next season, check back on the website some time in August.

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Latest Update: I checked in with the actor status. We are still in need of extra actors on some nights. If you are interested, come to Screamworld an hour or two before it opens. On many nights we are short because for some reason or another some of our regular crew cannot make it, and we need people to fill in. We are usually hiring at least a couple of extra actors every night.

Now we can’t promise we will have openings, but if you live close by and you have the time – check in and you can see what this experience is all about.

  66. avatar Krishma says:

So Are we Allowedd to Dress up & Wear Face Paint ?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

Absolutely. It is common for people to come to Screamworld in costume. Don’t bring in any props (e.g. a pitchfork if you are dressed like a devil) that might be harmful to the actors or someone in your group (like yourself!) if in a moment of panic you start swinging it. (You will panic; happens to the best of us.)

  67. avatar brenda says:

i ment to say if can you still skip in line like not wait in it if you get the ticket of all the houses

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

I think you’re asking if you purchase the VIP pass, do you get to skip to the front of the line for all five attractions. The answer is yes… sort of. There is actually only one line at Screamworld. Once you begin the first feature, there are no more lines; the attractions just flow one to the next. A VIP pass allows you to go to the head of the line, so if you have a pass, you won’t have to stand in line for anything.

  68. avatar brenda says:

hey i wanted to ask that if you get the ticket for all the houses can you still skip??

  69. avatar jcorey says:

how much do it cost two get in

  70. avatar Rachel says:

Can we take pictures or video?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

You are welcome to take pictures or videos outside of Screamworld, and the actors who are working outside will be glad to pose with you – even if they don’t look very friendly. However, no photography or video cameras are allowed inside Screamworld or in any of the outside attractions (the Maze and Psychopath) themselves.

  71. avatar Brittany says:

When i went to screamworld like 2 years back i didn’t recall a haunted hotel being there. Which one is that? I remembered we went to the maze and then to the house then we were outside at the graveyard. Was the house the haunted hotel?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

There are actually three separate sections inside the house – one of which is the Haunted Hotel. In the past, each attraction was separate, and you had to stand in line for each one; in fact, many haunted houses still work that way. At Screamworld, we only have one line, and the attractions flow one to the next so you don’t have to stand in line again. There are signs inside that indicate when you are leaving one section and entering the next, but often people are too busy watching for spooks to notice them.

  72. avatar jcorey says:

how old do you have to be to get in

  73. avatar Nicole says:

If there is one attraction we don’t want to go to, do we still have to go since all of the attractions are under one roof?

    • avatar Blog Troll says:

For our three indoor attractions, this is the case; once you enter there is no way to skip ahead; they flow from one to the next. However, you can bypass one or both of the outdoor attractions if you want. All five attractions are included in the price of the tickets; we do not offer a discount if you skip any of the haunts.

  74. avatar Tara says:

What is the difference between a regular admission and a VIP pass?
